United individually packed

United Airlines, based at Chicago O'Hare Airport, has toughly reformed its catering policy in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On flights shorter than 2 hours and 20 minutes, United Economy Class passengers can only get drinks on order and no snacks are offered on board. If the flight is longer than 2 hours and 20 minutes, passengers are given hermetically sealed meals, a bottle of water and antibacterial wipes.

First Class passengers on flights shorter than 1 hour must order drinks in advance. If the flight lasts longer, they are given individually wrapped snacks and water, as well as antiseptic wipes.

Economy Class passengers on long-haul flights can look forward to a light entree, snack and packaged dessert, a sealed mid-flight lunch, and a snack shortly before boarding. Polaris and Premium Plus ticket holders receive meals for the duration of the flight on a single sealed tray rather than multiple passes.

“Individually packaged rations allow for a combination of traditional elements of onboard service while respecting safety measures,” the company said.
