Catering company LSG Sky Chefs New Zealand Ltd. (LSG NZ) will provide power for New Zealand's state railways KiwiRail.
LSG NZ will operate three KiwiRail branded trains, launched on 18 September under the Great New Zealand Travel brand. It is also planned to provide routes Christchurch - Picton and Auckland - Wellington. The contract is for a year.
Meals are produced at LSG NZ facilities in Christchurch, Auckland and Wellington.
“The train will serve passengers directly to their seats, like on an airplane,” said Bilal Oztürk, LSG NZ Regional Director for Sales and Services. "We have developed premium dishes from local produce."
KiwiRail's executive general manager for tourism and marketing, Aline Rainer, added: "The menu features specialties from the regions that trains travel through, such as Kaikoura crayfish and Canterbury lamb."
The LSG NZ train menu includes cold breakfast, lunch, cheese platter and farewell canapes. The company also provides the trains with dishes and service equipment.
