Emirates Flight Catering (EKFC) plans to reduce food waste at its Dubai manufacturing facility by 35%.
EKFC hopes to achieve this goal through a contract with artificial intelligence company Winnow. Smart machines will enable EKFC to automatically track and control food waste.
In the 2019-20 financial year, the EFFC managed to save about 500 kg of food every day, including fruits, vegetables, baked goods and meat.
EKFC works closely with its airline customers to analyze consumption trends and use the data to optimize food and beverage loadings for in-flight catering. This helps to reduce not only food waste, but also the consumption of aviation fuel associated with overweight aircraft.
“We are committed to investing in the latest technology to optimize our operations and minimize our environmental impact,” said EFFC CEO Said Mohammed. “Food waste management has always been a focus of our attention.”
