There will be no easy solutions for hospitality on board cruise ships in the COVID-19 pandemic.
This opinion was reached by leading industry experts during an online discussion at Cruise Conversations, one of the leading specialized media platforms. On the agenda were logistical problems in the face of a pandemic, the future of on-board service and, most importantly, how to provide sea travelers with the same level of comfort while observing security measures.
"A combination of high-tech methods will help protect passengers," said Cruise Line consultant Stephen Fryers. "These include air filters, ultraviolet radiation, cleaning systems and personal hygiene products."
Technical differences between cruise ships of even the same company make it difficult to find a one-stop solution. Some vessels are 20-30 years old and their systems are more difficult to upgrade.
At the same time, new ships, such as Virgin Voyages' Scarlet Lady, are already using many procedures and technologies. There are Steripower hand sanitizers, an air purification system and contactless catering.
