Indian Railways is successfully implementing a phased recovery of passenger traffic amid the COVID-19 pandemic with the introduction of 200 new special trains with special security measures.
The Indian Railroad Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will provide limited availability of food and packaged drinking water on a paid basis only on trains with a limited number of passengers. “Passengers are advised to have their own food and drinking water,” the IRCTC said. All stationary food outlets at train stations remain open, but ready meals can only be served to take away. Passengers will also need their own bed linen and blankets, as these items are not provided on the trains.
Observance of social distance on the railway is ensured by an electronic ticket control program. “All passengers must download and use the Aarogya Setu app. Passengers are advised to travel light,” Indian Railways said.
