In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, the nostalgia for in-flight catering in Thailand has taken on an original form in Thailand.
Thai Airways has opened an in-flight catering restaurant at its headquarters in Bangkok, open from Wednesday to Friday from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm. The fast food establishment is made in the "aviation" style and daily sells to visitors about 2,000 meals, similar to the rations of onboard meals.
The restaurant is located on the second floor of the building and customers must climb to it via the airplane. "Passengers" are greeted by Thai Airways flight attendants and chefs and even given boarding passes. Inside there are seats from the company's airliners, with business and economy class provided. The interior is complemented by aircraft spare parts and other air carrier memorabilia.
Prior to the pandemic, Thai Airways Catering in Bangkok produced about 90,000 rations daily.
Thai Airways has restaurants at many airports in Thailand. Recently, a restaurant in Phuket was renovated under the Inflight Feed program.
